Da Nang on a Budget: Our Honest First 24 Hours

Da Nang, Vietnam — beach and city skyline

Da Nang surprised us. It's walkable, friendly, and — if you plan a little — genuinely cheap without feeling like you're missing out. Here's exactly how our first 24 hours went, including the parts that didn't go to plan.

Getting in from the airport

The airport sits minutes from the city, so a metered taxi or Grab is quick and affordable. Have a little cash ready, download Grab before you fly, and screenshot your hotel address in Vietnamese — it saves a lot of pointing.

Eating well for under ₱300

This is where Da Nang shines. Our rule of thumb:

  • Bún chả & bánh mì from busy local spots — cheap, fast, and excellent.
  • Order where the locals queue. If it's full at lunch, it's good.
  • Skip the tourist-strip prices one block back from the beach.

We ranked seven restaurants from bland to best in the full video — a couple of the cheapest places easily beat the pricier ones.

The hotel — honest take

Our room was clean and well-located, but a couple of things were worth knowing in advance (we cover the honest pros and cons on camera). Budget tip: a great location often saves you more in transport than a slightly cheaper room far out.

Our honest rule: spend on location and food, save on everything else.
